Banksy

Post by Jed on Fri 19 Feb 2010, 9:05 am

Bought this last week. Been interested in him for a couple of years. Nice to see all the work he's done in one place. Anybody else interested in his work (or vandalism as some would call it)?

This is one of the first sort of arty books i ever bought.
I love spotting his work in cheeky places around London, one of which was near where I live (the picture of the girl with the diving helmet on in deptford) although someone wanted it at sawed it out of the gate it was sprayed on.

This is the first art book I've bought. I'm not much of an "art" person, I never took it as a subject in school or college, but graffiti has always interested me, especially this sort with meaning behind it. I've never seen Banksy art in real life though. That's pretty selfish of them, the idea is so everybody can see it. Sad

When I was doing GCSE art, we had to do an entire third of it on 'street life' so I ended up doing a lot of research on Banksy and yep this guy's a genius to say the least. I didn't know there was a book on his work so i'm definetly picking it up.

It's astonishing how he's so popular yet his real identity still isn't known. And how he manages to do work like this:

and not get caught. Awesome. You could say he's kinda like the ES of art really, his work's really satirical towards politics, ethics and cultural topics.

I think he's an inspiration.
I wish I could create stencils like him.

Would be awesome if he did an album cover for ES. I remember he did one for blur.

He is absolutely amazing.
Had to do quite a fair bit of research about him when I was doing my photography work.

I have the wall and piece book also.

What I love about him is the fact he is illusive.
Putting more mystery into his artwork, which is why he is one of the most exciting artists around today.

There's a Banksy on the end of my street nearer to Shoreditch, and a fairly recent one about 5 minutes away on Essex Road...I think Fratson mentioned it last time he was down. It's pretty cool seeing his work on an (almost) daily basis Smile

EDIT: Here's a pic of the one I'm on about...

My final piece for GCSE was on Banksy. Built a wall, then graffitied it similar to this:

Only Banksy I've seen in person is the one off Oxford St
