PSN down.

Post by LeeLee on Tue 02 Mar 2010, 4:43 am

For all those that have a playstation, is your internet working? mine seems to have failed on me, and my date has gone back to 1/1/2000.

A few of my mates seem to have the same problem, yet some don't. Really annoying.

Apparently most people who don't have the new PS3 slim's PSN's are down. Sony have said to keep your PS3 turned off until the problem is resolved or you might lose all your saved data as when people are loading their systems it says "unable to find trophy data".

The PS3 is having trouble recognising the date and is going under the impression the date is "February 29th" or something, so apparently they'll all be fixed on March 2nd.

It's the slimline ones that work.
The older models are the ones being affected.

What the problem is, is that the Playstation's hardware clock is effected by a kind of leap year effect. It's not the software, so changing the clock on your PS isn't gonna fix anything. Sony need to release a firmware or it might fix it's self by tomorrow.

I'd keep it off like sony said, I don't think you'll lose any data saved your HDD but your trophies might fuck up.

That's weird.
Ours is fine and it's an older model, but all my brothers mates aren't and they're all slimlines.

The 2038 problem is evolved from the Unix epoch (00:00:00 Thursday, 1st January 1970) and how 32bit systems will deal with 03:14:07 UTC on Tuesday, 19th January 2038. Since most 32 bit systems take their time from that, on Jan 19th 2038, it will be 11111111 11111111 11111111 11111111 in binary speak, and nobody knows how computers will deal with it. They'll likely fuck up and think it's 20:45:52 UTC Friday, 13th December 1901. BUT thanks to 64 bit computers, this won't happen with them till Sunday, December 4, 292,277,026,596 AD. So it's cool.
