3rd Album Speculation/Hopes/Thoughts

Post by Jed on Fri 19 Mar 2010, 2:21 am

I know this one's a bit early but just listening to Take to the Skies and thought about Shikari's third album, which is slated for Summer/Autumn 2011 I think? Their last date for touring is 24th July 2010 which is the MK show. After that they may go into the studio. Anyway what are your hopes for the 3rd album, heard anything the band have mentioned about it or anything like that, write it down here.

Personally I'm hoping for a more post-hardcore orientated album, like Take to the Skies (OK! Time for Plan B/No Sssweat for example) but still with the same synth element of Common Dreads, preferably not as political as Common Dreads/Tribalism as I think that should be left on the two album so it doesn't become too stale. I'd like more electronic interludes too.

Anyway go ahead share your thoughts, hopes and any speculation.

I expect them to delve and experiment in even deeper territories of dance music.
Maybe a cheeky bit of salsa for a b-side.

Drop A tuning.
8R00741 vokillz.

I'd like it to be in the same sort of vein as Common Dreads, All Eyes On The Saint & Tribalsim but with a few more hardcore/dubstep influenced songs, I think a Maximum The Hormone style song would be awesome as well.
Maybe a Return To Energiser sort of song, only without the taking-a-massive-shit vocals haha.

More post-hardcore-ish, with some more cryptic lyrics. Although, I would like some more songs with Tribalism style lyrics. And some more synth like TTTS. A nice mix of Common Dreads and TTTS would be nice.

Pretty much what Jed said. Post hardcore with the synth quality of Common Dreads and Tribalism. Although I take my hat off to the boys and their efforts to bring about awareness of issues in our society I think (in my opinion) that they've sailed that ship pretty far now.

Cryptic political lyrics would be fine I guess but I sure do prefer talks of wilderbeast ribcages, encounters with aliens and generally telling people they're losers aha. The lyrics and inspirations of TTTS mixed with the energy and angst of Common Dreads I guess is what i'm trying to say.

tbh if it is anything like common dreads i will probably get bored of it after a month or so.
i love shikari, well, i like. but their album is just politics this, and its not that i dont believe any of it, i just dont like it when bands sing about such powerful stuff, i duno why, just do.

i dont like this tribalism stuff at allllll, so they need to go back to TTTS stuff personally

I's like them to try something new, like maybe try out a different sound? But I have to say I do prefer their dancey stuff to the dubstep. Possibly we could see a genre similar to what the track Tribalism was?

A cover album of The Monkees. No compromises, I will be nothing short of manically depressed if that doesn't happen.

I think they'll change their sound further. I think there will still be a political feel, but I hope it's not as political. I love music and musicians that are politically aware but I think to keep doing it would get slightly boring.
I'd like to see them keep dubstep in, maybe even slightly more but I dunno.

I'm sure I'll still like or love it, and even if they do change their sound radically, I think they know what they're doing with changing sounds and trying new things so they'll make it work.

It must sound like Daft Punk and Slayers retarded love child. If it's not auto-tuned I'll be thoroughly disappointed too.

with the tribalism stuff, i think the point of it being on tribalism was to branch it away from common dreads, they knew it was weird and different and didnt suit the common dreads releases. so it was released in a different package to suit it more, for more die hard fans wanting new songs to hear, but for most people out there, they won't download them or listen to them cause it's not on either album.

and i don't know what i'd like.
if it feels as fresh as common dreads did the 1st time i listened to it, then i'll like it.

with the politics, i can listen and understand, yet not feel pressured or pushed into any direction. cause to be honest, i have no real care about it at all. being an ES fan has, i guess, made me slightly more aware of my surroundings regarding the matters they press, yet i don't feel obliged to give a major fuck about it, but it feels good being aware of what's beyond my comfort zone in passions. kinda off subject now.

i want it to still be heavy, to be honest. not like, screamy, but like, gang chants, and hard vocals. they've proved they can do it obviously.

Thing is I think his throat can handle it to a degree. Seriously I wouldn't complain if it took 3 months to record the album just so he could get the vocals right. At the moment he throws in an odd scream here and there. For example Zzzonked Live @ Radio 1 Festive Festival is one of the best live versions of any Common Dreads song I've ever heard. If he didn't do it live all the time I wouldn't be bothered but at least put in a bit of effort on the album.
