^ my method.

I think if a girl is pregnant and the guy wants to keep it but the girl doesnt, it should be kept and agreed that the father has to look after the child, without support from the mother.

Its really unfair that its half the mans creation but its 100% the womans decision.

So you're saying if a girl gets raped and then becomes pregnant she should keep it?

I think abortion is fine, if a girl doesn't want a kid, then she doesn't want a kid. Nothing wrong with that at all.
I'd always advise safe sex though. I'd never have sex without a condom/going on the pill first.

It's up to the woman, like Rach said if a woman gets raped you really think she's going to want to keep it? To a lesser extent if the condom breaks/whatever contraceptive doesn't work or they just plain aren't ready to look after a kid there's nothing wrong with them having an abortion, I think having the kid and then giving it up for adoption is far crueller.

I think it all depends on the case in hand. I have a friend who is completely pro-life and cannot see things from different perspectives and goes "rape victims are killing children if they abort it", he's obviously unaware of what the mother would have to try and do financially as well as mentally, depending on their circumstances. I don't agree with abortion at the latest stages though, where the method is quite disgusting.

Rape is totally different.
However if 1 parent wants to keep the child, it should be kept. Its a disgrace that a woman can kill a child when the father wants it, but can keep it even if the father doesnt.

Well maybe you could make history here kev, why don't you be the first male who has a fertilized egg with all the essential insides transfered to your body, and you go through 9 months of pain, stress and hormones, then the delivery.
Fantastic idea.

I think abortion is great. If i got pregnant and abortion didn't exist, id have a serious break down.

Abortion is good, in some cases.
One girl has had 8 abortions at my college, completly darn right wrong.
I do believe it's killing a human being, cause I know some people say the baby isn't alive at the stage.. and what? it just comes alive all of a sudden after 3 months?
Abortion can be good for some girls who feel it is the right thing to do, it shouldn't be there for girls to abuse!

I think if it's a case of rape, then abortion is definitely the right option. Also if it's someone who doesn't think they can handle/afford having a baby because it's not fair for the child.

Re: Abortion

Post by Niamh on Wed 31 Mar 2010, 8:24 am

I'm pro choice, except when abortions are used as contraceptive. I've known people that have had sex without protection, haven't taken the morning after pill, then go for an abortion when they realise they're pregnant. That, right there, is fucked imo.
People should be responsible for their actions before considering an abortion.

I don't know what I'd do if I was pregnant at this age. I always think 'Oh, I'd have it aborted, I'm not ready...', but then I think of people that can't have children of their own, the fact that aborting is stopping a future life... I'm a 'what if' type of person, thinking about what the child would've grown up to be like.

Also, a man wanting to bring up a baby without the woman... it is still a huge commitment for the woman. The man could have kids with somebody else quite easily. That sounds SO BAD, but it's true. Yous can plant yer seeds where ye like.

All Forgotten are class ahaa, small world.

Oh and yea SLAG.

I agree that if a guy wants to keep a child but the woman doesn't, the guy should be allowed to look after the baby rather than the women having 100% choice on whether it enters the world or not. Sure they go through hell in the process but it's a small price to pay if they don't want to be involved in the child's life after. I know for sure that if I ever got someone pregnant I would look after the child rather than suggest she get an abortion, no matter how it would effect my short term plans. I've always said I want kids and if i'm stupid enough to make the mistake of getting someone pregnant i'm gonna make sure that I accept the consequences and learn from my mistakes. The thought of having a potential life prevented, that I helped create (inadvertently or not) would be with me for the rest my life :/ Along the line when I do have kids that are expected, that 'what if' scenario would crop up I think, the whole 'what would it have looked like? what would it have grown up to become? etc etc'.

Yeah, you could at least give it up for adoption, if you can't afford to look after it. Just to give it a chance at life.

Re: Abortion

Post by SophieM on Wed 31 Mar 2010, 9:07 am

Abortion is a great option to have for some but as Niamh stated, it can be abused which is fucking sick.
Then again I really don't know what I would do if I got pregnant now, serias breakdown. The thought of having going through the whole pregnancy process just scares the shit outta me so I would obviously contemplate abortion but then mentally, I don't know if I could do that. You're killing something that did nothing to deserve being killed. Even if they can't feel anything at that stage just thinking about the future that could have been.

As for the man having a say in it, Yeah fair enough you have a say, it's half yours. Though technically the woman will always have last say as she's the person who's carrying it.
